ἰήϊος, -ον, θηλ. και ἰηΐα (Α)
1. (το αρσ. ως κύριο όν.) ὁ Ἰήϊος
επίθ. τού Απόλλωνος, τού θεού τον οποίο επικαλούνταν οι λάτρεις του με την κραυγή ἰὴ ή ἰὴ παιών, ἰὴ παιάν
2. επίπονος, θλιβερός, λυπηρός
3. φρ. «ἰήϊος βοά» και «ἰήϊος γόος» — κραυγή θλίψης, θρήνος.
[ΕΤΥΜΟΛ. < ἰή. Η λ. από τη γλώσσα τού Ησύχ. ἰήιος («δασέως μὲν ὁ Ἀπόλλων ἀπὸ τῆς ἀφέσεως καὶ τῆς τοξείας, ψιλῶς δὲ ἀπὸ τῆς ἰάσεως...») συνδέθηκε παρετυμολογικά με το ἵημι. Η λ. ἰήϊος χρησιμοποιείται ως επίθ. τού Απόλλωνος και στην τραγωδία ως επίθ. τών λ. βοά, γόος, κάματος].
